lyrics
Chorus
House Number 23, nobody lives there anymore
House number 23, the one with the blue door
House number 23, high up on the ridge
When I was growin' up its where i wanted to live.
Verse 1
For a couple of winters and a couple of summers
Robert and Thomas lived there and everybody thought they were brothers
Friends with all the neighbours and always hanging out with each other
It was the 80's then so nobody knew they were really lovers.
Verse 2
When the boys time was done, a group of bikies moved on in
There was turmoil in the neighbourhood, they sure created quite a din
A tactical response group caused the end of the line
It took a solid 20 years for everyone to stop talking about that time.
Chorus
House Number 23, nobody lives there anymore
House number 23, the one with the blue door
House number 23, high up on the ridge
When I was growin' up its where i wanted to live.
Verse 3
When the door was painted red and the house filled up with beds
The kids crossed the streets and the mothers turned their heads
The subtle night time traffic was always as quiet as it could be.
The girls all left in the morning, except for Patsy and Marie.
Chorus
House Number 23, nobody lives there anymore
House number 23, the one with the blue door
House number 23, high up on the ridge
When I was growin' up its where i wanted to live.
Verse 4
Now its broken down and condemned and all the window glass in on the floor.
The developers have plans for 4 levels and there's talk of maybe even more
The squatters leave at 8 when the security guards come and do their rounds.
A brown bag to council caused for a quick turn around.
Chorus
House Number 23, nobody lives there anymore
House number 23, the one with the blue door
House number 23, high up on the ridge
When I was growin' up its where i wanted to live.
